My game is going to be different than the other games out there on the App Store. Unfortunately, I was starting down a path of sameness. Sameness sucks. Instead of flying around our solar system, why not go to other solar systems. I think it will be lots of fun!
The rocket game is going to change. SpriteKit is really nice, but definitely has some limitations, especially with physics. Metal looks really interesting! A thought about the future, post scarcity is going to be needed for our species long term survival.
It looks like the last update to this blog didn't work. Well, development on the game continues. A re - write is in progress. Seems like I hadn't thought out the code particularly well, and it got much harder to add new stuff. Now, going back to the beginning, the code will be much more thought out. One day this game will be done. I can't wait, since this is something that I myself am impatiently waiting to play!I want to fly to the moon, with the Saturn V in my game. In order to do that, I gotta land on the moon. I need a LEM. It turns out that drawing a LEM is super hard! Like they say, we do it not because it is easy, but because it is hard. I think it's time to do something very Silicon Valley, pivot. My space game is still going to get done, but I think my adventure either SpriteKit is done. I'm going to give Unity a go. It seems much more mature than SpriteKit, and it will allow me to port to multiple platforms. So we'll see how the Unity adventure goes. Update: After playing with Unity, I'm gonna stick with SpriteKit. Why, you ask? I know Swift and SpriteKit. I don't want to stop in the middle of developing to learn a new engine. So the SpriteKit adventure continues! Moment of insignificant person growth today, I don't hate Facebook hashtags anymore. Oh, and 2D game programming requires a lot of trig that I have forgotten. Ok, that previous post was cynical, and maybe a little bit mean. Even introverted optimists sometimes have to be cynical. Social networks can be very interesting, but sometimes quite annoying. Anyway, work continues on the space exploration game. I'm really liking SKPhysicsJoints! They are so useful, especially if you are making a game that may involve multi stage liquid fueled rockets! |
